Speaking at the India Today Mind Rocks 2017 in New Delhis Siri Fort Auditorium, Smriti Irani said, I think whoever lives in Delhi and who is from working family, they always have had a problem that someone might come and say dont you know who my father is, adding, Merit will be the sole criterion for success in New India. Smriti Irani was responding to a question put to her by India Today executive editor Gaurav Sawant that whether politics was meant for any willing young person or only that individual could enter politics who came from a family of politicians. The Union minister responded by saying, Gaurav has very cleverly has asked the question about Rahul Gandhi without taking his name. Irani then went on to explain the Modi governments vision of New India. New India is defined by people who dare to dream and strive to achieve success only on the basis of merit, Smriti Irani said. SMRITI IRANI AT MIND ROCKS 2017: ALL THAT SHE SAID Responding to a question about the image of politicians and opportunities for women in politics, Smriti Irani said that a particular image was created about politicians and politics that it was not for people especially women to think about it. The image was created to keep good people and women from joining politics, she said. Talking about New India, Smriti Irani said, One person, Smriti Irani, cannot define New India. Young India will define New India. New India will be a place where women can hold their heads high and where those powerful empower the marginalized. Reflecting on her journey from Delhi to Mumbai to be a part of the entertainment industry, Smriti Irani said, I was not scared (while trying to establish myself in the industry) because I am from Delhi. Girls and women from Delhi, from all what they go through during their growing years, become capable of doing what they want to. Speaking about pursuing ones dream, Smriti Irani said, Success does not mean 100 per cent protection from failure. It means meeting your failures and look into them failure and dealing with them positively. On choosing to join politics, Smriti Irani said, It is easy to move on from your failures, but when you leave behind success to join a new field, things are different. I was doing political activism along with acting but at point of time I felt I could not do both. I decided to join politics and quit acting. SMRITI IRANI ON BLUE WHALE CHALLENGE Smriti Irani also took a rapid fire round at the India Today Mind Rock event where she appealed to youths for staying away from Bluewhale online game. This is not something to indulge in. Youth must say no to it. Parents need to engage more with your children. Have discussion with your children. I have done the same with my kids. You cannot leave the job of raising your children to someone else. If there is a communication problem, get counseling. There is no point shying away from it, Irani said. SMRITI IRANI ON GOOD TOUCH BAD TOUCH With instances of sexual abuse of children being reported frequently raising concerns about their safety, Irani emphasised that kids should be taught about Good Touch, Bad Touch. My request will be to all the parents to show short clips to your kids educating them about inappropriate touch. I have done that with my children. Have conversation with your child, Irani said.
